and i’ve come to realise some of the issues i have with the drama also exist in the novel. when watching shl, wenzhou felt somewhat disconnected from the plot to me, and it turns out i’ve forgotten that novel wenzhou likewise fuck off from jianghu politics to go on a rolicking adventure and play house for like 15 chapters lol.
and when they return from their honeymoon, you have to get a summary of events from cao-dage. so, i can see why the drama decided to actually show what was going on in the jianghu at the time, and try to tie wkx and zzs more closely to what was going on.
I’m still getting used to how A-Xu dramatically monologues his past in the drama, while novel!ZZS is more of a “you have to be my LV99 confidant, stalk me across ancient China, survive multiple life or death scenarios with me before I even drop a hint of a real emotion” kind of character.
I do understand why the adaptation went this route, especially since novel!ZZS is mostly internal monologue, but it’s still an adjustment. I also miss “slutting it up for one man only” novel!WKX, but that version of him isn’t passing censorship.
